More magical evenings

Thiruvananthapuram: Evenings can be more entertaining now for the city dwellers. The Magic Academy has launched evening courses in the art and science of magic. The course mainly aims at the working class who are engaged during the daytime.

Class timings is from 6pm to 7.30pm. There will be basic and higher modules. Each module would have approximately 15 classes.

Course ofexcellence

For magicians who wish to conceive a 30-40 minutes of show, the Academy offers a ‘Course of Excellence’. The classes will help the participants to streamline their ongoing shows and make it more attractive. The stage, light and sound etc. available with the Wonder World auditorium of the Academy will be permitted for practicing sessions. The course has already been offered at the Magic Academy Research Centre at the KINFRA Film and Video Park, Kazhakuttam.

Residential facility

Both these centres have a capacity to provide accommodation for two candidates each. For a monthly fee of Rs.1500, standard accommodation with complimentary dinner or breakfast will be provided.

Other courses available are: Senior Basic Course through Sundays, Junior Basic Course for children (Alternate weekdays during April-May every year) and Five or seven days of Crash Courses in magic (Impromptu, Close-up or Conjuring magic).

Magic camp for KV students

Thiruvananthapuram: The Magic Academy is organising a 10-day magic training camp for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya. Children of age group, 10-15 can participate. Classes will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 15th May to 5th of June.

The camp offers scientific training in the art of magic. Classes will serve mathematics and branches of science in a captivating format. Participants can also learn a few interesting hand tricks to enhance their power of concentration and memory.

Class on classic Close-up

Veteran magician gets ready to share the knowledge he has gained for over 4 decades in magic.



Thiruvananthapuram: A.M. Anthru aka magician Anthru Perumattom, will be leading the 64th session of monthly Perfect Performer Course at the Magic Academy on 11th April. Mr. Perumattom belongs to Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district. 40 years of experience as a magician, has provided for this veteran, a unique position among magicians.

For the PPC, he will be teaching a few innovative magic tricks that fall under the category of ‘Close-up’. “I have my own original presentations” says Mr. Perumattom. This magic teacher is well known for the variations he has introduced to make the usual routines unusual. Hence the next PPC becomes inevitable for those who look for indigenous alterations for making their close-up performances special.

Thiruvananthapuram: This year’s runner up in the Vazhakunnam Memorial Close up contests, Jili Jili Bobby will lead the 55th session of PPC at Magic Academy on 12th July. Mr. Bobby, a Bank Manager by profession, will be offering a refreshing module on General Magic with special emphasis on presentation. “How to make the show different will be the main theme of my class. The class, focused more on close up magic will present easy ways of making the performance nice, by way of presentation skills”, Mr. Bobby told VMN. Besides, he has also kept a sweet presentation for the occasion. It is going to be an enactment of his masterpiece magic, ‘sympathetic silk’. Registration fee will be Rs.150 inclusive of lunch. P.M. Mithra's Perfection Class on 12th April

With over 25 years of experience as a leading magician, P.M. Mithra is about to offer his first Master course in Magic.


Thiruvananthapuram: Master of perfect illusions, the one and only P.M. Mithra will guide the 52nd Perfect Performer Course to the heights of magical knowledge on 12th April at Magic Academy. The veteran, well known for his perfection in meticulously handling complex illusions on stage, will be teaching on his favourite subject, ‘Perfection on magic stage’.

“During my class, I will be much frank in disclosing the techniques I have been adopting in performing and mending of illusions and also in marketing magic in this modern era”, Mr. Mithra, holding three decades of admirable career in magical art, told VMN. He also pledges that there will be at least one illusion technique taught to the participants. Mr. Mithra however has put forward a condition that all the participants in his class should be active magicians who are frequented with magic performances on stage.


“A class on illusions and stage perfection will go astray unless the participants have live contact with the magic stage”, he pointed.

Monsoon Magic Camp for kids

Cloudy skies, gloomy days and naughty rains… still, monsoon is a festival in Kerala. It's exactly the season when the nature shows its prowess to cast a charming spell – of wilderness and might; compassion and consolation – after a sweltering summer.
Now kids in Kerala have another reason to enjoy the rain battered monsoon days. Magic Academy has set the stage ready at its Wonder World auditorium for a one-day Monsoon Magic Camp (MMC) for kids on 14th of July.

Besides lunch and refreshments, the participants will get one year membership in the Magic Club and a packet containing magic equipments and books.

The camp will start at 10a.m. with their darling Magic Uncle, Gopinath Muthukad taking a class on 'Basics of Magic'. Other magic teachers including Rajamoorthy and Chandrasenan Mithirmala will lead kids to some more engrossing arenas of the awesome art. The camp concludes at 6p.m. with a magic show by Leons George, a school teacher turned magician.

Children who haven't yet attended a Magic Camp can register for the full day session by submitting their bio data along with a fee of Rs.200. Magic Club members should pay only Rs.150.
