Glimpses of a Magician’s Mesmerizing Tour

Magician Rajkumar, President of MAZMA was on a short visit to Magic Academy to explore the possibilities of the art of magic. The thick packed programme at variety centers in Thiruvananthapuram made his tour enriched with wonders. Director of Magic Academy Chandrasenan Mithirmala, Manager Coordination Deepak M and Former Administrator K P Sivakumar were welcomed him at the airport. Common magic’s critical expressions from Magician Rajkumar were maddening the city throughout tour. 
The Chief Operator of MARC, Thomas Karulai with the Muthukad magical Entertainers Troupe Manager Anand Mezhathur was eager to honour and receive them at the Research Centre of Magic Academy. It is rare in its kind to have a research wing for magical innovations according to Rajkumar. Impressions made in his mind from the research areas cause to announce research proposals for illusions.

Construction site of Kannadikottaram, the mirror palace was more interesting. He has learned the technical specs and plans from the work supervisors, thus the keen interest made him fascinate. 
Karuna Sai, the de-addiction centre at Vellanad has organized a warm reception to the magician to have the amazing moments for the inmates of the centre. Magician Rajkumar was very much expressive to the gathering with his magical conveyance. 
Upon having the century programme of Perfect Performers Course, this time, native magicians benefited from this committed art performer. The savior of traditional Indian Magic and Magicians, Rajkumar framed many a scenes on his tour in Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: If you have got a talent in making illusion props needed for magic shows, here comes your opportunity. Magic Academy Research Centre (MARC), has made an exciting announcement for illusion makers who are in search of a chance to vent their creative passion. For the first time in the country, the MARC has invited creative inputs from illusion makers to submit their inventions to receive due recognition. Approved concepts will be aided and taken up by the MARC. Carpenters, mechanics, electricians and other technocrats can submit their magical inventions and ideas.
       While announcing this, Executive Director of the Academy, Gopinath Muthukad, has expressed hope that this would definitely encourage magical inventors and re-establish native authority in making magic. Dependency on outside products has made native magicians preys to adulteration and cheat, he added. We made the announcement to encourage indigenous creativity and help artisans and technicians in making magic gadgets with an Indian touch, he said.
       Attending a meeting of the Academy trustees, renowned magician and Director of Delhi School of Magic, Rajkumar endorsed the idea. He pointed to the degradation of many traditional magic tricks and said that the Academy’s new step would safeguard great Indian heritage in the art of magic.

Nuts and bolts of Mentalism and more


Kochi: Another refreshing episode of monthly Perfect Performer Course awaits magicians at the Kochi centre of Magic Academy. Mentalism performer of fame, magician Nipin Niravath is to lead the session scheduled for August 12th.

Magic Academy setting up first Convocation of University Course in Magic


Thiruvananthapuram: Convocation ceremony for the world’s first magic course supported by a university will be held on 27th of July at the Wonder World auditorium of the Magic Academy. Receiving their magical degree will be students of age 50 to fifteen who passed a course appropriately named, ‘Certificate in Magical Art’. The course was held at the Academy with the support of Kerala University’s Centre for Adult Continuing Education and Extension (CACEE).
   The three-month’s course had four theory papers, two practical papers and a viva voce. Students were introduced to almost all types of magic, starting from close up magic and showmanship to conjuring magic, street magic and mental magic.
        For its historic convocation ceremony, the Academy has assured the presence of the Vice Chancellor of KU, Prof A. Jayakrishnan, who will be the guest of honour to distribute the certificates. The dais will also have the presence of director of CACEE, Dr. Supriya Jayakumar; executive director of the Academy, Gopinath Muthukad and director, Chandrasenan Mithirmala. For the culmination of the function, there will be magic shows by some of the top students of the Academy.

‘Bhagyavismayam’ begins on August 1st


State-wide magic fiesta is a tribute to illusionist luminary, Prof. Bhagyanath
Thiruvananthapuram: Impending is a splash of magical entertainment for the State. It would not only decide the best magical performers of Kerala, but also showcase elegant evening shows by eminent magicians of the country. Magic Academy in association with the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, is to steer a state-wide festival of magic during 1st to 5th of August. The festival christened, ‘Bhagyavismayam’ would be a due commemoration to the illusionist luminary of the past, Prof. Bhagyanath and an opportunity for the emerging magic starts of the State to prove their mettle. 
If to compare with previous festivals conducted by the Academy, the ‘Bhagyavismayam’ goes to be a different kettle of fish with three regional competitions through Kannur, Thrissur and Kollam. A grand finale in Thiruvananthapuram will find the winners fighting to win a mega cash prize of Rs.25000 sponsored by daughter of Prof. Bhagyanath and cinema-television celebrity, Vidhubala.
Regional events
Aspirant magicians of Kasaragode, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode can register for competitions to be held at Jawahar Auditorium in Kannur on 1st of August. Competition for Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam magicians is slated for 2nd at Sangeeta Naraka Akademy’s auditorium in Thrissur. 3rd is the day for conjurers of Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram to compete at C. Kesavan Memorial Town Hall in Kollam. Competitions are held in senior and junior categories. Regional competitions will witness sparkling performances by contestants during daytime and rocking demonstrations by winners and reputed magicians through evenings. The Academy has already reserved eminent magicians for this purpose.
Grand finale
Regional first and second prize winners would gather at Theerthapada Mandapam in Thiruvananthapuram on 5th of August, to display the best of their skills. Best of the best performers and one mega prize winner will be decided during the competitions. To make a day of it, the Academy has decided to arrange study classes and seminars for benefiting the participants.
