Cruise of ‘SBT MAGIC with a MISSION’ persuades the youth

Thiruvananthapuram: A mission wheels from the north to the south of Kerala with a vision of magician to eradicate evils of tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse in the society. Led by Gopinath Muthukad, the statewide magical campaign, ‘SBT MAGIC with a MISSION’, is on its success trail. The magical campaign is a ready response to a call by the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy and organized under the auspices of the State Government.
Venue after venue, the programme is noted for huge public participation. The magic team has already crisscrossed Palakkad, Kasaragode, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Alappuzha districts receiving stirring response from spectators. The show is based on an intelligently crafted theme that strongly sensitizes viewers on the hazardous effects of tobacco, alcohol and narcotic substances. For addicts who repent and wish a return to virtuous life, the magic show sends a motivational call.
Having the State Bank of Travancore as its major promoter, the magic tour is part of the anti-addiction campaign jointly launched by the Excise Department and Information and Public Relation Department. District Administrations also support the programme intended to enlighten youth at grassroots.
A curtain raiser held at Palakkad gathered wide publicity owing to an interesting magic number wherein Mr. Muthukad made his disciple and the district’s chief, K.V. Mohankumar vanish in daylight. The voyage was flagged off at Kanjangad by the Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, K.P. Mohanan. The minister on the occasion successfully tried his skill in magic by producing a skull from the ashes of a piece of paper written drug and alcohol.
It was during the valedictory of a successful five-day mission with similar objectives held in Kochi that the CM appealed the magician to carry forward the message throughout the State.
