First Malayalam book on magical literature

Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Mayaaksharangal’ a book written by Honorary Director of the Magic Academy, Chandrasenan Mithirmala and considered as the first book in Malayalam to introduce the magical contexts in 66 famous works from Malayalam and other languages, was released here on 24th of July by writer Dr. George Onakkoor. At a function presided over by poet, Neelamperoor Madhusoodanan Nair, General Secretary of the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham, Prof. V.N. Murali received the first copy.

There are engrossing and concise chronicles in the book about the influence of magic in books including the ‘100 years of solitude’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez; ‘Mantra charadu’ of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, stories of M.T. Vasudevan Nair, poem of P. Kunhiraman Nair and short stories written by magician Gopinath Muthukad. These articles were earlier serialised for six years in the Academy’s monthly journal, ‘Vismayam Magical News’. Mr. Muthukad has written the preface for the book.

The function was felicitated by Mr. Muthukad and Prof. Lalithabai. Lalsalam gave welcome speech and the author of the book, Mr. Mithirmala offered vote of thanks. Published by the city-based Mythri Books, the book is priced at Rs.85. The book will be available at major book shops as well as the Magic Academy's store.

The ‘Mayaaksharangal’ is also the first book published by Mr. Mithirmala who is also Chairman of the district chapter of the Headload Workers’ Welfare Board.
