Preeth, Oshiya win Eco-magic competitions

Thiruvananthapuram: Would you like to get your water bill for Rs.1000 slashed down to Rs.90? Do you want your power consuming electric bulbs replaced with power saving CFLs? This and more is possible, but only at the swish of magician P. Preeth’s magic wand. At the eco-magic competitions held today under the joint auspices of the Magic Academy and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Mr. Preeth was showing how an eco-friendly lifestyle can not only save money, but also cool the warming globe. He was adjudged first in the senior category.

27-year-old Mr. Preeth is having congenital disability in speaking and hearing. When majority of the contestants spoke a lot to establish a point, he was just relying upon mime and magical visuals that appeared and disappered on the magic stage. He is currently working as an animator with a Technopark firm.

Within the 8 minutes given, 20-year-old nursing student and magician, Abhinraj impressively showed the past, present and future images of the world. He won second prize by symbolically presenting, the huge glaciers of the past, slender ones of today and swarming water that would surround the world tomorrow.

In the junior category, the first prize was won by a 12-year-old girl magician from Kozhikode, Oshiya. Her magic invited everyone’s attention to pertinent issues including mosquito control and prevention of diseases. Second prize went to 13-year-old magician B.J. Amogh of Thiruvananthapuram. Jury comprised of magicians M.P. Sadasivan and Somasekharan Nair. The Academy’s Executive Director, Gopinath Muthukad presented mementos and certificates for the winners.

Earlier an environmental awareness talk was delivered by Prof. E. Kunhikrishnan from the Department of Zoology, University Collete. Honorary Director of the Academy, Chandrasenan Mithirmala talked on the ways of using magic for environmental awareness.

2nd PPC in Kochi by Preeth

Versatile: P. Preeth has a range of abilities in the field of magic.

Kochi: 2nd monthly Perfect Performer Course (PPC) for magicians at the Kochi extension centre of the Magic Academy will be conducted on 11th of April by a magician with tremendous ingenuity, P. Preeth. After completing his studies at the Academy, this 27-year-old in magic was establishing his name in the magic world through sheer talent.

For Kochi magicians, Mr. Preeth will be bringing a range of lessons that no magical enthusiast could deny. Fee for the half-day class will be Rs.150.

The PPC was inaugurated in Kochi by Abhinraj, another young product of the Academy on 14th of March. Way to imaginative magic

The Magic Academy's monthly master classes for magicians crosses the mark of 75.

Thiruvananthapuram: Preeth doesn’t do magic, he only performs magic. Does performing and doing make any difference? To this question, 27-year-old magician P. Preeth has the answer in writing: performing is creative, doing is mechanical. Or if you need a practical explanation, come and attend the 75th Perfect Performer Course to be led by him at the Magic Academy on 13th of March. But come ready to acquire the hitherto unexplored and thoroughly incredible powers of ropes, cards, coins and paper.
With the might of the creative mind, this young magician has thwarted challenges of life including a congenital problem with speech and hearing.

His ability in presenting the usual magic tricks with unusual frills of fantasy, is tremendous. This was predominant throughout ‘Super Talent Show’ a reality show aired a few months back by the Amrita TV. In this show, his success trail had the length to carry him to the finals. As he wears the mantle of a magic teacher, the Academy upholds its faith that this disciple who turned into a magic teacher would keep up with the growing expectations of the PPC attendees.

Preeth, who smiles at the results

P. Preeth

It is such a pity not to recognize the real talent. And this is where the ‘reality’ in the modern-day reality shows really falters. I was recollecting these statements from the result of a reality show that was conducted by a famous channel on Malayalam Television.

One of the students of the Magic Academy had participated in the show. And it was our own brother magician Preeth. As we all know we should never keep on remembering that fact, but here we have to tell the fact that he is dumb and deaf by birth. Being a ‘special’ man, his inabilities was never near his high ambitions for the art of magic.

He learned Magic and made them into new new forms that even the creator of the magic would be amazed to see! He recieved immensely great comments throughout the show, and always he would respond with a sweet smile, that would convey more than a thousand words. As well-wishers, we were all eagerly waiting for the announcement of the result of the show. But, sadly to the surprise of all of us he came 5th out of the 5 final participants. We cannot go and argue for not giving the prize to him.

But, he was literally ‘insulted’ in the finals. When the prizes were distributed, they forgot to atleast mention and thank Preeth for coming over there, and of course for reaching till the finals. There a bit of the ‘humanitarian’ aspect should have been shown. Atleast a shakehand would have been enough. But not even was there a mention of Preeth. Another fact of this is the hidden intentions of the channel to nicely finish the show off, and that too rudely with that commercial touch. But, after having seen all this our Preeth would still smile and will keep on smiling, keeping a lot of his sadness in his heart.

Thiruvananthapuram: He is born with hearing and speaking disability. But in the case of 25-year-old Preeth, we should rephrase it as; he is born with a phenomenal creativity. Mr. Preeth has created history on the Amrita TV Super Talent show by just grabbing full marks – 10 out of ten – during one of his rounds. If you think his consecutive success is a result of being a voracious buyer of magic props, you are wrong. He uses the very common gadgets and applies very familiar sleights of hand. But extraordinary are his showmanship and creativity. With these qualities, this Magic Academy alumni continues his victory march.
