Mecartin’s Magic wane the approached cigarette

MAGIC with a MISSION hits & thrills the youth

Kochi: Film maker could be a magician; that too with a social responsibility. Well known Malayalam film maker Mecartin turns to a magician to endorse with his commitment to magic and its mission. He has staged a magical skit to extend the awareness against obsession of smoking and drinking at Ernakulam Town Hall as part of the Magic with a Mission of Magic Academy.

Magic skit, where he has keeping away the flown cigarette to him and later on made disappear was an alluring act by Mecartin and it was followed by an un-emptying pour of liquor to a clear glass. The dramatization of the theme was performed with the assistance of Vinod Kedamangalam in the magic workshop for youngsters and students on the fourth day of the ‘mission 5 days’.

Enthusiasm of students will certainly be worked out to convey to the rest the campus, according to a teacher attended the mission programme and they have repeated the need of such edutainment programmes with magic to any range of people including our students and youngsters.

Mecartin’s was in the fore with the ground level coordination of Academy’s Magic with a Mission project, which is in association with Cochin Corporation, Kerala State Youth Welfare Board, district authorities and Excise Department.

‘Voter turnout results through magic were higher’: Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi: “In Kerala, Election commission involved the State’s most celebrated magician Gopinath Muthukad to package our education in his greatly entertaining format. I am happy to inform you that the results were even higher in terms of Voter participation, as evident from the historical voter turnout witnessed” the chief election commissioner of India S Y Quraishi stated in his valedictory address here at 5th International Entertainment Conference. He was referring to the election awareness magical programme of Magic Academy titled as “We the People”.

Organized by the Kerala State Election Commission, Muthukad's performance titled ‘We the People' was in a bid to educate voters and increase their participation in the process of democracy.

According to the CEC, "Edutainment" is the best response of present times for making cognitive, physical, emotional and social development faster and smoother.

“Entertainers hold sway over people’s minds, whether one admits or not. Encouraged by our previous achievements, entertainers in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala to advance voters education, not only for turnout, but also for ethical voting, that is to reject inducements and bribes as a consideration” he added.

The first Entertainment Conference was held in 1989 in California; since then international conferences have taken place in the US, Holland and South Africa. This year India- with its kaleidoscope of arts, cutting edge technology and dynamic movie industry – was the host of the 5th international EE Conference. The theme this year was to address social and health issues highlighting the world’s most vulnerable - women and children and expected to establish a vibrant platform for post conference networking and action, according to the organizers.

According to S Y Quraishi, Election Commission has had its lessons. Having taken up the goal of Greater Participation of Citizens for a Stronger Democracy, entertainment based education is going to be a definite component of our strategies under the newly created SVEEP Division. In the coming series of state elections, they will engage this method to the hilt for enhancing voters’ turnout. EC will use this every time for achieving registration of all eligible citizens on the rolls.

Malayalam film actress Kavya Madhavan has joined with MAGIC with a MISSION, an initiation of Magic Academy with different government organisations, by posting “ലഹരി ജീവന് ആപത്ത്‌" (Lahari Jeevanu Aapathu / drugs harm life) on the signature canvas exhibited the Town Hall. “Such awareness missions will definitely help the addicted ones to correct”, Kavya told here on Thursday, November 24th.

Magic’s mission alerts against addictions

Kochi: An initiative of Magic Academy with State Youth Welfare Board, Excise Department, the Cochin Corporation and the district administration has alerted the youth with a ‘skull’ as the bottom-line of addictions with alcohol, tobacco and drugs. The mission inauguration was with a conceptual magic by Minister of Excise K Babu by dropping two pieces of papers, written ‘alcohol’ and ‘drugs’ in it to a crystal bowl which turned to a skull as the outcome.

Enthralled audience at the Town Hall reaffirmed their commitment with an oath taking lead by well known film actor Siddique at the inaugural function. Magician Gopinath Muthukad has given the introductory talk on the scope of magic and mission activities. He has stated: "Magic is a good tool to communicate as there is no language barrier. Anyone can understand the message conveyed without any difficulty,"

The meeting was presided over by the corporation mayor, Tony Chammany where deputy mayor B Bhadra, Federal Bank CGM T S Jagadeesan, district collector P I Sheik Pareeth IAS, well known film director Mecartin and counselor Sudha Dileep Kumar attended the function.

Considering the latest statistics of drug-alcohol-tobacco-pan masala consumption in the state, the joint effort of different governmental organizations made together the platform for the ‘mission 5 day’ in Ernakulam, titled as Magic with a Mission. It is with the focus on the harmful effects of drug abuse and other such addictions. A range of awareness programmes including workshops, de-addiction counseling, net work campaigns and much more are the highlights of the venture.

Different sessions in anti-alcohol magical workshop of the missionforth coming days will be lead by professionals from various sectors including Dr. Rajith Kumar from Excise Department, Dr. Jayakrishnan from Regional Cancer Centre and a number of psychologists. District education authorities and corporation’s education standing committee has coordinated with educational institutions in the district to ensure the frontline utilization of the magic mission along with hundreds of student cadets.
